The families of the Eden victims are continuing to share with us the memories they cherish, the bonds that can’t be broken, and what’s giving them strength through this heartbreak. WXII spoke with members of the Carter family who opened up about the moment they learned two of their loved ones were in the crash.Matt and Hunter Carter are cousins. They're also linemen, the kind who don't hesitate to roll out when a call for help comes in. Last Thursday, what started as just another day on the job turned into a tragedy no one could have imagined. "I got a phone call from my dad saying, 'Hey, two of your cousins were actually in it,'" said Kenneth, one of their cousins. "That's when I started calling my family members around and checking in on them."The Carter family springs into action, making call after call, rallying around loved ones as they grieve the loss of Matt Carter and pray for the recovery of Hunter Carter. Both linemen — cousins — victims of the dump truck crash in Eden. "It hurt more seeing our family out there, and all we can do was pray," said Kenneth. "I mean, you seen the picture of them circled around. That was our closest family members out there praying, and that's all we can do, is pray and pray and pray." Kenneth shared how Matt was the cousin he always looked up to — looking out for him since high school. "He was always there for me if I needed someone to talk to," he said. "He always had a smile on his face. He’d give you the shirt off his back if you asked him for it. Hell, you didn't even have to ask him for it. He'd give it to you." Timothy, Kenneth's father, recalled how the family rallied around Hunter after the loss of his father years ago. "We were children," he said, "but the adults then, all the uncles and aunts, became the parents for him. So this kid had, like, nine moms and dads, you know, to listen to."That same village is coming together once more and leaning on their faith during this difficult time. "We’re just praying for Hunter's recovery and God to do a supernatural healing," said Timothy. Timothy and Kenneth say this tragedy has strengthened the bonds of their family. Strength they’ll need to endure the tough times they have ahead.
